Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The coronavirus pandemic has led to a higher rate of job loss and reduction of hours in the tourism and hospitality sector than any other sector across the country. It’s obviously hit us hard in Philadelphia.
If you are a participant in the Local 274 Health and Welfare Fund (free coverage for yourself) you should have gotten a letter from the Health Care Fund stating that your coverage will end October 31st. In some specific hotels, it is possible that there may be a further extension but we cannot count on it and will not know the answer until the end of October.
We know that health care is a corner store of our contracts. We know how important it is to everyone. You will need to start the process of applying for other health insurance very soon. Your Union will do our best to provide the best information about how to apply for health care through the “Obamacare” Marketplace or Medicaid. We will also be able to direct your to organizations that can guide you through the process if you are having trouble.
